Course Overview

Improve Group is an Exemplar Global Certified course provider; this course is designed to provide participants with the ability to conduct Work Health and Safety (WHS) audits. It will cover the skills and knowledge required to evaluate a business’s systems for identifying hazards, controlling risks, and improving WHS management.

  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Managers
  • WHS Management practitioners interested in conducting first, second, or third-party audits

Mandatory requirements include:

  • Demonstrated competence in literacy, numeracy and report writing skills
  • Referencing and understanding legislation, standards and codes of practice
  • Assisting health and safety officials
  • Preparing workplace health and safety reports
  • Consulting with workers, employers and statutory health and safety officials

A strong working knowledge and/or experience working with AS/NZS 4801:2001 and AS/NZS 4804:2001 is desirable.

This course covers the following learning objectives:

  • Manage an audit program
    • Developing audit schedules
    • Prepare and manage audit team resources
    • Identify resources required to conduct a quality audit
    • Develop and submit an WHS audit plan and tool
    • Identify and prepare checklists and audit related documentation
    • Assess the scope and objectives of a quality audit
    • Guide team members in continuously improving their performance
    • Monitor and review audit system and activities
    • Review Auditee documentation
  • Communication during the audit
    • Communicate with an auditee regarding a proposed quality audit
    • Communicate with an auditee during the audit and post-audit
  • Conducting audit activities
    • Initiate the audit and conduct opening meetings
    • Identify, compile and evaluate audit findings
    • Prepare audit results and report
    • Prepare audit conclusions
    • Conduct closing meetings and report audit results
  • Post audit follow-up
    • Negotiate the follow-up process with an auditee
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of systematic approaches to identifying WHS hazards; WHS risk management and WHS monitoring processes.
  • Assess the impact of WHS management approaches on performance
  • Assess and advise on organisational WHS compliance against agreed benchmarks

Participants who demonstrate competency by successfully completing all assessment activities will receive a Successful Completion certificate from Improve Group to demonstrate that you have met the training requirement for the following courses by Exemplar Global.

A Certificate of Attendance issued by the Improve Group RTO #31506 for units:
Exemplar Global AU: Auditing management systems
Exemplar Global TL: Leading management systems audit teams
Exemplar Global OH: Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems

A Statement of Attainment issued by the Improve Group RTO #31506 for units:
BSBWHS606 Conduct WHS audit
BSBAUD501 Initiate a quality audit
BSBAUD503 Lead a quality audit
BSBAUD504 Report on a quality audit
BSBAUD402 Participate in a quality audit

Potential pathway option available with cross credit of 1 unit towards BSB60615 Advanced Diploma of Work Health and Safety.  Participants who attend the face to face training and do not complete all assessment activities will receive a Certificate of Attendance, issued by Improve Group RTO #31506.

Our trainers will work with you to ensure your needs are met whilst meeting the course requirements. By enrolling into an Improve Group Lead Auditor in WHS Management Systems course, you are entitled to attend the Lead Auditor in WHS Management Systems support days offered. These support days are offered upon request face-to-face, at Improve Group training centre, or online and allow you to:

  • Work with trainers in a face-to-face environment
  • Ask questions about assessment pieces
