Course Overview

This short workshop covers the skills required to safely lift and move objects. It teaches participants some physical anatomy of the back, and encourages recognition of manual handling activity.

This course is aimed at all levels of staff who undertake moving and handling of inanimate objects. It is designed to provide participants with information on physical anatomy of the back, and the skills to recognise a manual handling activity and adopt safe handling techniques.

There are no restrictions on entry to this course, however if participants have any health issues they should inform the trainer prior to the course, as this course may include a practical activity.

This course is designed to enable participants to:

  • Apply the statutory and minimum workplace health and safety requirements and principles to manual handling
  • Describe the statutory obligations
  • Identify what constitutes manual handling
  • Describe the causes of manual handling related incidents
  • Understand the anatomy of the back
  • Prevent re-occurrence of manual handling related incidents by selecting appropriate control measures with reference to the Hierarchy of Control and Manual Tasks Code of Practice
  • Use and demonstrate appropriate handling techniques
  • Review and monitor applied control measures
  • Adopt appropriate posture during work activities

Participants who demonstrate competency will receive a Certificate of Attendance for “Course in Manual Handling Objects” issued by Improve Group RTO #31506.
