Course Overview

This qualification is targeted at operational team leaders who wish to improve the performance of their teams. Participants implementing these practices in their workplaces typically see improved cycle times and an increase in throughput.

Business performance results are the principle outcomes of the delivery strategy developed for Improve Group clients. Typically, most delivery is structured around building knowledge through face-to-face training with one of our coaching staff. Rolling out of this, the participants will be set up to complete a series of 3 to 4 week change ‘projects’ structured around a genuine business improvement opportunity, during this period the participants will complete and document the project activity and the results achieved.

This qualification is ideally suited to team leaders (or similar) who are responsible for the operational performance of their team. Leaders wishing to implement competitive systems and practices in their workplace typically see results in:

  • reduced costs coupled with improved levels of service;
  • improved throughput and reduced cycle times; and
  • the freeing up of capacity to allow for future growth whilst avoiding a capital cost and reducing or eliminating the need for overtime.

Participants are required to have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend instruction. It is not suitable for direct entry from school, as it is assumed that a learner has already gained operational or technical skills to complement the training.

After achieving this qualification, candidates may choose to undertake MSS50316 Diploma of Competitive Systems and Practices.

This qualification covers the following units of competency:

MSS403001 Review competitive systems and practices*
MSS403010 Facilitate change in an organisation implementing competitive systems and practices*
MSMENV472 Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices*
MSMSUP390 Use structured problem-solving tools
MSS403002 Ensure process improvements are sustained
MSS403021 Facilitate a Just in Time system
MSS403033 Map an operational process
MSS403040 Facilitate and improve implementation of 5S
MSS403044 Facilitate continuous improvement through the use of standardised procedures and practices
MSS403084 Improve changeovers
MSS404082 Assist in implementing a proactive maintenance strategy
MSS405014 Develop a communications strategy to support operations

The units above may be altered upon discussion with your coach.

Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory and practical assessments (for all units as stated above) will receive a Qualification in MSS40316 Certificate IV in Competitive Systems and Practices issued by Improve Group RTO #31506.

This qualification may be subsidised by the Higher Level Skills program, which is funded by the Queensland Government.

The program is open to any Queensland resident aged 15 years or over who is no longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students) and is an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.
